Welcome to Pendo Machakos Chapter CBO! Pendo Machakos Chapter is a community Based Organization that began two years ago. It exists to alleviate poverty in the famine and drought hit areas of Machakos District in Machakos County, Kenya. It is registered under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social development in Kenya. PEMACHA CBO’s goal of alleviating poverty in these areas is threefold. We fight poverty through offering micro-finance to individuals, registered self-help groups, and also identify poor people and encourage them to work as a team. PENDO facilitates these teams to begin sustainable small-business ventures that not only improve their regular income, but also help them make a difference in their regular income as they live in the society.
Moreover, we also offer tuition scholarships to the bright students from these areas who pass their national exams and do not have the financial ability to pursue higher learning in High School, colleges and Universities. Pendo helps to cushion them by facilitating their education with one goal knowing that once they gain advanced knowledge and skills and qualify to be employed, they would in turn help themselves, their families and such benefits end up trickling down to the society and make a great difference.
Furthermore, under this goal, we also have established a resource center or a library in Machakos Town in Machakos County, Kenya, which is located in a central location from where it is possible to most students and families to read in preparation for their classes in primary, High school, colleges, and universities. Pendo also provide a place in this resource center for students to read and do research especially for those who are in colleges and universities. Pendo believes knowledge is power and it is dynamic and facilitates change in the lives of people as well as the society at large. We are committed to enabling poor people have a mental attitude change through acquisition of knowledge and skills and utilizing them for their own benefit.
Finally, Pendo also has an arm that offers relief food to the poor people as a temporal measure to allow people survive in between the rain seasons, which have proved to be scant and support very little subsistence farming to the farmers in this region. Our relief project during this period is a temporal measure that gives people hope for a brighter future ahead of them.
It is against this backdrop that we request your partnership in translating this to be a reality to many in this region who are suffering this fate. It is human nature to identify with those who are suffering or struggling and we believe if we partner together, we will make a difference in the lives of these poor people.
We have a timeframe of ten years and we target to make a difference in the lives of 3,000 people in this region through these projects.
Your partnership is key in making this happen and we believe we can count on you in advance. This is an opportunity for you as an individual or an organization to make a difference in the lives of people, which would in turn make you proud.
Rev. Dr. Bernard K. Nzioka Regional Director, Pendo Machakos Chapter CBO.
